Most Diverse Band You’ll Ever See

The IUPUI Pep Band is comprised of students, faculty, staff and alumni who share a love for music.  The organization is open to anyone who plays an instrument.

After a several year hiatus, the Pep Band reformed for the 1998-1999 season, as an effort to show support for the school during its inaugural NCAA Division I entry.

The band’s director, David Copeland, received his Bachelor of Music Education from the School of Music at Indiana University in Bloomington. He also received his Master of Arts degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Indianapolis.  Copeland is also the director at Southport High School in Perry Township.

The band travels with the basketball team once a year to the Mid Continent Conference Tournament (now renamed as the Summit League) where the team competes for a chance to play in the NCAA tournament in Division I.

IUPUI did not have an official school fight song until the 2000 – 2001 season.  Gary Fry, of Chicago-based Catfish Music, wrote the song.  The inherent theme of “Let's Go, Jags!” pays homage to IUPUI's roots: ties to two world-class universities, and how IUPUI draws the best from both to provide a new and unique college experience to IUPUI students, to the Indianapolis community and to the state which it serves.
